Remember when Samsung used to ship a heart-rate sensor on its phones? Huawei's new Mate XT 2 foldable phone does something odd with its metal frame. The band that holds the tri-fold together also reads your heart signals. Built into the structure is an ECG sensor, and that single design choice pushes the form factor into territory nobody expected. China’s auto giant, Geely, has launched a four-seat electric city car priced at roughly $6,540, once again proving that the rest of the world missed out on the EV revolution for the masses. Talking about missing out, teachers are going back to the basics as they fight against AI cheating and the real risks of using AI detectors.

Huawei's Mate XT 2 tri-fold uses its metal frame to record ECGs
Huawei's new Mate XT 2 tri-fold phone makes a strong case for health sensors returning to smartphones, and it does so in an unusually elegant way. Rather than adding a dedicated sensor pad, the device uses its metal side frames as electrodes. When a user unfolds the phone and holds both sides with their hands, the Mate XT 2 captures a 30-second electrocardiogram recording. The accompanying software, powered by Huawei's Xiaoyi AI assistant, then generates a report that can flag conditions including atrial fibrillation, premature ventricular contractions, and premature atrial contractions in adults, going well beyond the pulse-based readings that earlier phone health sensors provided.
The idea of building health sensors into phones is not new, but it largely fell out of fashion after Samsung experimented with it in the mid-2010s, placing a heart-rate sensor beneath the rear camera of the Galaxy S5 and carrying similar hardware into subsequent models like the Note 4. More recently, Infinix revisited the concept with a side-mounted health monitor on the Note 60 Pro. Huawei's implementation is more clinically meaningful than those predecessors, since an ECG records the heart's actual electrical activity rather than simply estimating pulse, though the company is careful to note the results are for reference only and are not a substitute for professional medical evaluation.

Teachers are ditching AI detectors and redesigning assignments instead
After a year of trying to catch students using ChatGPT, many teachers have quietly given up on AI detection tools and started rethinking assignments from the ground up. The shift comes after investigations revealed that popular detectors like GPTZero and Copyleaks are unreliable enough to flag entirely human-written work as AI-generated. In one documented case, a UC Davis senior received a zero on his midterm based solely on a detector's score, despite having written every word himself.
Rather than monitor students more closely, educators like Rachael Zeleny, who runs the writing program at the University of Baltimore, are now requiring students to submit the messier evidence of their thinking: handwritten outlines, video reflections, and transcripts of their exchanges with chatbots. She has also built AI characters through a platform called BoodleBox that argue with students in real time, forcing them to construct and defend arguments on the spot. At John Carroll University, supply chain instructor Andrew Zeiser has moved toward decision-making simulations where students must explain the reasoning behind their choices, work that is far harder for a chatbot to convincingly fake on a student's behalf.
Geely's Panda Mini Karting Edition is a $6,500 four-seat electric city car
Geely has launched the Panda Mini Karting Edition in China, a four-seat electric city car priced at roughly $6,540 during a promotional window that runs through September 30, with a regular listed price closer to $7,435. The car measures just 3,150mm in length and leans hard into personality, featuring round headlights, sporty bumpers, 14-inch wheels, and a large roof-mounted spoiler that gives it a karting-inspired look. Five exterior colors are available, including a new orange shade developed in partnership with Taobao, and the interior gets a 9.2-inch digital instrument cluster and an 8-inch central touchscreen.
The powertrain centers on a 17.2kWh lithium iron phosphate battery supplied by CATL, an upgrade over the previous Gotion pack, paired with a rear-mounted 30kW motor producing 110Nm of torque. Geely claims up to 210km of range on China's CLTC cycle, or roughly 130 miles, and the battery supports 22kW DC charging, with a 30-80% charge taking around 30 minutes. Top speed is limited to 100km/h, which firmly positions the Panda Mini as an urban commuter rather than a highway cruiser. Practical touches include rear parking sensors, a reversing camera, two front airbags, electronic stability control, hill-descent assistance, and a trunk that expands from 69 liters to 800 liters with the rear seats folded.
